A DV certificate confirms you control the domain name. It encrypts data sent between a visitor's browser and your website, removes browser security warnings and enables HTTPS. It does not verify your business identity.

Most are issued within minutes. Validation is automated and completed by email, DNS record or file upload, with no paperwork and no manual review.

Email is simplest if you can receive mail at the domain. DNS suits anyone who manages their own records. File upload works on a live site, but it fails where a redirect is in place and it is not available on wildcard certificates.

A wildcard covers one level beneath your domain, so shop.yourdomain.com is included. Deeper names such as eu.shop.yourdomain.com need their own certificate. There is no limit on how many subdomains you secure at that level.

HTTPS is a confirmed ranking signal and a DV certificate is enough to enable it. Ranking does not vary by validation level, so DV, OV and EV are treated the same. The larger effect is avoiding the "Not secure" warning, which costs visitors before ranking matters.

In encryption terms, yes. All validation levels support the same TLS encryption, up to 256-bit depending on what the visitor's browser negotiates. The difference between DV, OV and EV is identity verification, not cryptographic strength.

DV verifies domain control only and is automated. OV additionally verifies your company against public business registries. EV applies the most rigorous verification and places your registered company name in the certificate details.

DV suits blogs, portfolios, landing pages, marketing sites and business sites that do not take payments. If you process payments or hold customer accounts, OV or EV is the better fit.

You can, and the encryption is identical. What DV does not do is show visitors who operates the site, which matters for service businesses, B2B sites and customer portals. OV is the stronger choice where that trust is part of the sale.

Yes. Everything sent over HTTPS is encrypted, including login credentials, form submissions, comments and cookies. It does not tell visitors who operates the site.

Certificates are now issued for a maximum of 199 days and reissued for the remainder of your term. Reissue happens automatically, and we reinstall the new certificate when your site is hosted with us.

Browser warnings reappear and some browsers block form submissions. Automatic renewal prevents this.
