What is a VPS, and when do I need one instead of web hosting?
A VPS is a virtual server with resources reserved for you alone, rather than shared with other customers. You get root access and decide what runs on it. Web hosting is the better choice if you want a ready-made environment with cPanel and no server administration. A VPS makes sense when you need software that shared hosting cannot install, when you want to control the stack yourself, or when your application has outgrown the resource limits of a hosting plan.
Do I get full root access?
Yes, on every plan. The server is yours to configure. Install what you like, change the kernel parameters, run whatever stack suits your application. We handle the layer underneath and stay out of the rest.
What does Core Managed include?
Operating system updates and security patching, availability monitoring, and backup configuration. We keep the base system current and tell you when something needs attention. What runs on top of the operating system stays yours to manage, so if you want your applications maintained as well, our Managed WordPress plans are the better fit.
Which operating systems can I run?
AlmaLinux 8, 9 and 10, Debian 11, 12 and 13, Rocky Linux 8, 9 and 10, Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04, and FreeBSD 14 and 15. You pick the operating system when you order, and you can reinstall with a different one later.
What is KVM, and why does it matter?
KVM is full hardware virtualisation, which means your server runs its own kernel with genuinely reserved CPU and memory. Some providers use container-based virtualisation instead, where resources are shared and a busy neighbour can affect your performance. Every Pladinum VPS runs on KVM.
Where are your data centres?
Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Montreal, Singapore and Sydney. Choose the location when you order. Pick the one closest to the people using your application, since that is what determines latency.
How many IP addresses do I get?
One IPv4 address is included with every plan. If you need more, contact us and we will arrange it.
Can I upgrade or downgrade later?
Yes, in either direction. Move up when your application needs more resources, and move down if you overestimated. Get in touch and we will handle the change.
Is a control panel included?
Not by default, since a VPS is normally run over SSH. cPanel and Plesk are both available if you want one, in several editions depending on how many domains you need. Ask us and we will add it to your plan.
